The ProExam Story

ProExam has been helping set standards in credentialing for seven decades. Founded in 1941 as the testing arm of the American Public Health Association, ProExam became an independent, not-for-profit entity 30 years later, focused on taking a personalized, flexible and insightful approach to meeting the needs of a broad spectrum of credential sponsors.

  • Our mission. Our core mission is to serve the public by demonstrating and communicating the value of credentialing, for both voluntary certification and required licensure. Properly done, credentialing delivers an independent “seal of quality.” In addition, it enables credential earners to attain greater personal satisfaction and professional stature by recognizing their skills and accomplishments.
  • Our services. ProExam provides a comprehensive set of assessment and advisory services to organizations and institutions that sponsor and issue credentials in a wide range of industries and occupations. We apply our proven processes and deep insight to certification and licensure programs, as well as assessment and certification tied to training and higher education.
  • Our approach. Creating a sound credentialing program is one of the most important activities an occupation or institution can undertake. We work collaboratively with our clients to build and enhance programs, starting with understanding their mission and analyzing their credentialing requirements. Then we create items and exams, and deliver the assessments by computer-, Internet- or paper-based testing methods.
  • Our clients. ProExam works with more than 60 professional associations and 100 different licensing boards in 60-plus U.S. and Canadian jurisdictions. We test candidates in every region of the world, in professions and industries that include accounting, higher education, engineering, energy, financial services, food services, health care, information technology, management and security.
