Practice Analysis Study to Thoroughly Define Current Audiologist Roles

NEW YORK – Jan. 10, 2013 -- Professional Examination Service, the most experienced organization in professional licensure and certification services, has been selected by the American Board of Audiology® (ABA) to conduct a detailed practice analysis in audiology.

As part of the practice analysis, Professional Examination Service will work with thought leaders, educators, employers and practitioners to structure a description of current professional practice that is clear, concise, comprehensive and contemporary. The result will support development of educational, experience and other eligibility requirements for the profession of audiology, focused on competent practice.

This marks the second time the ABA has worked with Professional Examination Service, including an earlier contract to prioritize stakeholder needs for certificate programs.

Torryn P. Brazell, managing director of the American Board of Audiology, said, “Certification is a way for audiologists to quickly and easily convey their expertise to their colleagues, potential patients and medical professionals. Highly skilled and certified audiologists not only provide thorough treatment of those with hearing loss, but also proactively prevent possible related damage. We know how important it is to regulators, members of the profession and the general public that audiologists have the depth of knowledge, displayed through credentials, to support competent care.”

Professional Examination Service has deep experience in conducting practice analysis studies, which are considered foundational for any profession, institution or industry credentialing program, whether it is for mandatory licensing or voluntary certification. A practice analysis, also known as competency profile, job analysis or role delineation, provides a critical link for attaining a credential. “Our research and advisory services experts have conducted model practice analysis studies across a wide range of health care and non-health care professions,” noted Robert S. Block, president and CEO, Professional Examination Service. “We look forward to continuing our relationship with the ABA.”
